The annual Face The Music conference will return to Melbourne in November, bringing with it an international and local lineup of industry speakers participating in panels, keynote presentations and masterclasses.
Organisers have announced the first round of speakers and it’s headed up by Le Tigre and MEN member JD Samson. Samson has just launched a new collaborative dance project SHARER and has also completed a collaboration with Pussy Riot. Additionally, she’s also a key supporter of LGBTQIF and feminist causes and is currently publishing work on Vice’s new women’s issues channel Broadly.
She’ll be joined by music activist Ruth Daniels who will delivering a message specifically for Australia’s independent artists. She’s the founder of Un-Convention which puts on global grassroots events in 25 countries around the world and was also the founder of Manchester label Fat Northerner Records.
Elsewhere on the lineup are producers Anna Laverty and Andrei Eremin who have worked with Meg Mac and Japanese Wallpaper respectively, Dan Rosen of ARIA and Look Out Kid’s Nick Byrne who manages Courtney Barnett.
This year’s lineup continues a strong run for the non-profit event which last year delivered a keynote presentation from Steve Albini and a masterclass from Hiatus Kaiyote.
Organisers are promising a total of 150 Australian and international speakers to be announced by the time the conference rolls around. Tickets are on sale now.
