Voting has wrapped up for Falls Festival’s Foster A Band initiative, with Fremantle’s The Hunting Birds taking pole position. The band will now be performing on the Falls Downtown stage in Fremantle, where they’ll be rubbing shoulders with some of the biggest acts on the bill.
The folk-rocking five-piece stole the imagination of the majority of the punter votes. Voting was open for the past month, with people from all over the country having their say as to who should perform at Falls, and a plethora of Fremantle-based acts were up for the prize, including Pow Negro, Bells Rapid and Phocal.
Posting to Facebook, The Hunting Birds say, “Massive thanks needs to be handed to our fosters at Music Insight for believing and investing in us, its been a pleasure! Most of all, thanks to everyone that took time to vote. The sheer amount of gratitude and love we have for each one of you is insurmountable.”
The news is on par with the band’s current winning streak. This month they’ll be playing alongside British India and make their TV debut, all while their current single State Of Mind (below) cops a well-deserved flogging.
The band will now have the opportunity to steal the thunder from the likes of Rag N’ Bone, Kari Faux and Mt
Mountain, who will also be taking to the Downtown stage.
UPDATE 1/12/16: Grouplove have cancelled their entire Australian tour including all Falls Festival shows and sideshows.
