Fat Freddy’s Drop Share New Single ‘Shady’ from Forthcoming Album ‘WAIRUNGA’

Fat Freddy’s Drop have shared ‘Shady’, the first single to be lifted from their forthcoming album WAIRUNGA ahead of its arrival next month. The beats that feature were influenced by a visit to South Africa in 2016, and subsequent exposure to the local style of techno known as Amapiano – those elements paired with rich horns, woozy synths and soaring vocals on the song.

New album WAIRUNGA is set to arrive on Friday, 20th August. The album was recorded live in the outdoor surrounds of Wairunga on New Zealand’s north island, sans audience, with the band debuting five new songs and revisiting two classics.

A concert film based on the album will be live streamed on Saturday, 31st July, with a repeat screening the following morning on Sunday, 1st August. The film will be broadcast free via the band’s YouTube and Facebook page.

Listen to ‘Shady’ below. Fat Freddy’s Drop are headed to Australian shores in October, when they’ll headline a massive six-hour Sunday Session at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl as part of this year’s Melbourne International Jazz Fest. Other acts confirmed to appear during the extravaganza include The BamboosEmma DonovanPaul Grabowsky and The Cat Empire trumpeter Harry James Angus
