Here Are FBi Radio’s SMAC Award Winners For 2017

Sydney’s FBi Radio has announced the winners of its annual Sydney Music, Arts & Culture (SMAC) Awards, after thousands of locals voted for the city’s most influential musicians, artists, performers, restaurants and events of 2017.

Going down at Sydney’s Carriageworks last night, the 2017 SMAC Awards saw Cloud Control (pictured) pick up Record Of The Year for their album Zone, while Best Song went to Rainbow Chan‘s ‘Let Me’.

Local indie crew Body Type took home both the Next Big Thing and Best Live Act awards, while Best Music Event went to the one-day festival Soft Centre.

The 2017 SMAC Of The Year award went to Sydney activist and GetUp’s YES campaign figurehead Sally Rugg, for her work in the push for marriage equality.

“[Rugg] played a crucial hand not only in bringing her community’s ideas resoundingly into the mainstream, but in codifying them in the law of the land,” said FBi Radio’s Managing Director Clare Holland.

“She helped build a broad coalition around the idea that Marriage Equality is a necessary ingredient of any culture that values equality, fairness and expression. Through the community that she fostered, those alienated and brutalised by the campaigns surrounding the vote found the strength and support to endure. And to prevail.”
