The First Ever Nirvana Cover On ‘Like A Version’ Has Punters Divided

Big Scary have become the first act to cover a full Nirvana song on triple j‘s Like A Version segment, and reaction to the performance has been mixed.

Tom Iansek, Joanna Syme and company took to the triple j studios to cover ‘Come As You Are’, one of the most influential songs from Nirvana’s seminal album Nevermind, breaking Like A Version’s ‘Nirvana Curse’ in the process; multiple acts have pitched a Nirvana song for the segment in the past, but have had to pull out due to sickness and other reasons.

Big Scary’s slowed-down version of the song was backed by piano, bongos and saxophone, and while it’s had some positive reactions…

…it’s also received some pretty negative ones:

Nirvana’s music previously appeared on Like A Version in October last year, when Violent Soho literally performed four seconds of ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ before covering Silversun Pickups’ ‘Lazy Eye’, so we’re not counting that as a full-on Nirvana cover.

While in the triple j studios, Big Scary also performed their original song ‘The Opposite Of Us’. Watch both performances, below.

The group will tour Animal around the country for the very last time throughout June and July, before performing at Splendour In The Grass 2017.
