The first designs of Amy Winehouse‘s tribute statue in her hometown of Camden, London have been unveiled.
Artist Scott Easton posted work-in-progress images of the statue being developed via his website. Pending approval, the statue is set to be installed on the first floor terrace of famous Camden venue the Roundhouse in September 2014.
Writing via his website, Easton said that the statue was part of the planning application proposal handed to Camden Council to leave a lasting tribute to Winehouse, who died of a drug overdose in 2011.
“The memorial is planned as a life-sized bronze to be installed on the first floor terrace of the Roundhouse in Camden,” he wrote.
“In my opinion it is a little early to be sharing these images given that there is a lot of sculpting still to do, but the planning application is now public and they are in the news.”
The statue was first mooted by Winehouse’s father, Mitch, in November last year. He said the statue would be unveiled on September 14, 2014, as part of a gigantic tribute concert to Winehouse at the venue on what would have been her 31st birthday.
Winehouse is also a strong favourite to be one of the first names honoured on London’s new Music Walk Of Fame, planned to open in Camden in the middle of this year.
