The first string of acts who’ll be reppin’ for Australia at the South By Southwest (SXSW) music and arts conference in Austin, Texas have been revealed, and they are Perth alt-pop act Methyl Ethel, Victorian singer-songwriter Demi Louise, New Zealand-born, Melbourne-based Marlon Williams & The Yarra Benders and Melbourne rockers Gold Class.
Over 30 Aussie acts took part in SXSW 2015, including SAFIA, The Delta Riggs, Kirin J Callinan, DMA’s, Meg Mac, Tkay Maidza and Gang Of Youths. This year’s contingent will hopefully be even stronger.
International acts who are included in SXSW’s first list of diverse music-makers for 2016 include the new incarnation of Toronto electronic group Crystal Castles, London hardcore punk band Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, bedroom pop sensation Alex G, Mike Kinsella’s American Football solo project Owen, New York indie rockers Caveman and Korean rappers Illionaire Records (Dok2 & The Quiett).
SXSW 2016 is taking place in Austin between the 15th and 20th March, with the SXSW Music Conference in the day and showcases each night. Applications to perform at the event are still open, and will be through this Friday, 23rd October via the SXSW website.
