Just months after the release of her latest body of work, FKA twigs has unveiled her latest single, channelling the effects of heartbreak for ‘Killer’.
Released today, ‘Killer’ comes just six months after the release of FKA twigs’ Caprisongs mixtape, and just one week after the track was first performed live as part of NPR’s Tiny Desk (Home) Concert series, with her set recorded at London’s St. Matthias Church.
Written alongside Jimmy Napes, Amanda Ghost, and Jonny Coffer, and produced with the latter, the synth-laden song sees FKA twigs looking inwardly, having previously described the single as being written “for baddies with a tear in their eye”.
“It’s dangerous to be a woman in love,” twigs says of the track in a statement, echoing its opening line. “When at its worst, the effects of heartbreak can define one’s trajectory much more than the beauty of the love itself, in my song ‘Killer’, I explore this concept.
“The navigation, the hunt and the kill,” she adds. “The death of promises, dreams and the future that was once promised. But like the wildest plucked roses, I find myself more beautiful delicately wilted, in shadow, forced solace, darkened at the edges and achingly thirsting to be tended to again.”
