Flight of the Conchords’ songman Bret McKenzie has agreed to pen another song for the revived Muppets franchise as plans progress on the sequel to last year’s successful film The Muppets. The news of McKenzie’s involvement with The Muppets 2 (not its official title according to IMDB) comes from Music-News.com, who reported that producer Todd Lieberman confirmed McKenzie’s return.
McKenzie won an Oscar at the 84th annual Academy Awards earlier this year for his song Man or Muppet. The song was performed in the film by actor Jason Segal, who co-wrote The Muppets, but will not be returning for the sequel. When speaking with Crave Online, Segal said he felt he’d already achieved his goals with the first film.
“You know, my goal was to bring The Muppets back and I think I achieved that. It was half a decade of my life and I just want to take a minute to concentrate on more human-related projects,” Segal told Crave Online according to NME.
The Muppets 2 will, however, see director James Bobin and co-writer Nicholas Strolle back onboard along with McKenzie.
