Florence + The Machine Debut Jack Antonoff Collab ‘King’

Florence and the Machine are back, baby.

Collaborating with producer du jour Jack Antonoff, the Florence Welch led outfit has presented its first new music in two years, in ‘King’.

The track, more or less your classic Florence and the Machine fare, is executed with flair and theatrics that are going to undoubtedly pull fans back onto their radar.

It’s a gorgeous return to form for the group and for Welch, a firm reminder of how classic her vocals have become when we think about singers who defined contemporary British music in the last decade.

Welch commented on ‘King’ in a statement this week, detailing its meaning and significance to her as she moves throughout this chapter of her life.

“As an artist, I never actually thought about my gender that much. I just got on with it. I was as good as the men and I just went out there and matched them every time.” she stated.

“But now, thinking about being a woman in my thirties and the future, I suddenly feel this tearing of my identity and my desires. That to be a performer, but also to want a family might not be as simple for me as it is for my male counterparts. I had modelled myself almost exclusively on male performers, and for the first time I felt a wall come down between me and my idols as I have to make decisions they did not.”

The last Florence and the Machine record came in the form of 2018’s High As Hope.
