Florence and the Machine’s Florence Welch has announced that she is taking a year off from music. The singer told Style magazine that she wants to have twelve months to herself before she starts work on her next studio album.
“There’s a big ‘take a year off’ plan’,” Welch said. “The record company have put no pressure on me for the next album. They’ve said I can have as long as I want.”
Some of that time might be used to sort out any recurring vocal problems which might pop up. Earlier this year, Welsh suffered a vocal injury that caused her to cancel headlining appearances at Benicassim in Spain and the Optimus Festival in Portugal.
“I actually felt something go pop or snap, or whatever,” she said.
“Whatever it is, it was very frightening. I had to really adjust because it happened in the middle of a show.”
Despite her impending hiatus, it’s not as if we won’t be hearing no new bits of music featuring Welch’s voice in the near future. Last week, Scottish superstar DJ Calvin Harris revealed Welsh will feature on his new album 18 Months, set for release later this year.
