They announced their fourth studio album What Went Down earlier this week, and now UK indie rockers Foals have shared the album’s monstrous six-minute title track, complete with an intense music video featuring footage of the band rockin’ out.
What Went Down (below) begins with frontman Yannis Philippakis’ raw vocals, dotted by a sharp guitar riff. When the chorus kicks in, though, all hell breaks loose.
The song was premiered on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show, and as DIY Magazine notes, Philippakis has described the track as “definitely the most savage and animalistic” song the band have recorded.
“It feels predatory, like we’re on a hunt,” Philippakis added as he confirmed that there are other songs on What Went Down which have a “similar intensity” to the album’s title track. There are also a few others with some “Spanish Sahara vibes”.
Sharing the What Went Down video on their Facebook page, Foals have said, “Can’t wait for you all to hear the rest of the record. It’s real.”
What Went Down, which will be the follow-up to Foals’ 2013 album Holy Fire, is set for release on 28th August, featuring ten new tracks. Catch the music video for the album’s epic title track, below.
