A new Australian metal supergroup founded by ex-4Arm frontman Danny Tomb, and Teramaze guitarist Dean Wells has let the cat out of the bag on their new lineup. And it’s one big mo’fucker of a cat.
The band, calling itself Meshiaak (Meh-she-yuk), has recruited drum ninja Jon Dette as its official beatman, a dude whose CV reads like a best of thrash metal compilation. Not only has Dette drummed for Testament, Evildead and Killing Machine, he’s also filled in behind the kit for 50% of thrash metal’s Big Four, drumming for both Slayer and Anthrax at Soundwave 2013, just after the former band controversially fired Dave Lombardo.
Rounding out their official lineup with Nick Walker on bass, Meshiaak have also penned a worldwide record deal with Mascot Label Group, and are set to enter Green Day’s Jingletown Studios in Oakland, California on March 25th to begin tracking their debut album.
“I’m a thrash head through and through, I grew up on it, and it’s in my blood. When I write music, it definitely comes through,” Tomb said in an interview with Loud Mag.
“Before we started anything, I had a heap of material just sitting there, but since Meshiaak started, we’ve worked on it all and changed or pulled it apart and put back together almost everything. I’m really looking forward to the end result.”
The forthcoming disc, entitled Alliance of Thieves, will feature 9 tracks mixed and mastered by the UK’s Matt Hyde and is expected to drop in late September.
Posting on their official Facebook page, the band said, “Alliance of Thieves promises to be an album for all metal heads to raise a fist and bang their heads to”. Can’t wait.
