Fox News presenters don’t typically shy away from a little bit of controversy, so when co-host of Fox News‘ The Five segment Greg Gutfeld received some backlash from Red Hot Chili Peppers fans after calling the group “worst band on the planet” earlier this week, his response was, naturally, to inflame the situation live on air.
Two days after his original comments, Gutfeld addressed RHCP fans in another segment of The Five called ‘Greg’s Apology’, and when he initially indicated that he was going to retract his comments it looked like everything might resolve itself, but that was never going to be the case.
“Two days ago I said that Red Hot Chili Peppers were the worst band on the planet,” said Gutfeld. “I received a lot of flack from fans all over the world. What I meant to say was the Red Hot Chili Peppers [are] the worst band in the universe. I’d like to apologize for that confusion.”
Gutfeld went on to explain that his hatred for the Chilis stems from his love for Faith No More, and as a matter-of-fact, because all Faith No More fans hate the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
“I want to explain that we live in a binary universe,” Gutfield went on to say. “You’re either a Faith No More fan, or a Red Hot Chili Peppers fan.
“You cannot love Mike Patton and Anthony Kiedis, because they are two different people. You have to love Mike Patton, you cannot love Anthony Kiedis. So that is why the Red Hot Chili Peppers are the worst band in the universe, because Faith No More is the greatest band in the universe.”
