Frank Ocean Close To Completing New Album

Almost two years since the release of his acclaimed debut Channel Orange, Frank Ocean has taken to his famed Tumblr, hinting that he is close to finishing his follow-up record. In the post, Ocean says he may skip this weekend’s Coachella festivities, so he can put the final touches on his new record.

Ocean said that as he is opening for Outkast at the recently announced Pemberton Music Festival, he may as well skip their Coachella gig “to stay in the groove and finish this bitch”. The draw of an Outkast reunion proved too strong in the end though, with Ocean finally deciding to “bring the helicopter out”.

News of an Ocean sophomore record has been stirring for some time. A couple weeks ago, frequent Ocean collaborator Nabil posted a photo of the Grammy winner in the studio at work on his sophomore LP. Last month, Ocean released the track Hero, a collaboration with Diplo and The Clash‘s Mick Jones and Paul Simonon as part of Converse’s Three Artists, One Song series.

The illustrious lineup for British Columbia’s Pemberton Festival, which runs July 18 to 20 includes Ocean and Outkast as well as Nine Inch Nails, deadmau5, Soundgarden and Kendrick Lamar. Coachella kicks off this weekend.
