Any day that has new Frank Ocean updates in it is indeed a good one.
No, we’re not getting any new music from the elusive artist any time soon, but if you’ve been trawling the internet for a sweet vinyl version of Ocean’s acclaimed debut album Channel Orange to no avail, your wait time is almost up!
In a new interview with Dazed, Ocean fielded questions from the likes of Rosalía, Rex Orange County, JPEGMAFIA and John Waters on a number of different topics.
Nile Rodgers, legendary CHIC guitarist and producer, was the one to ask Ocean when Channel Orange was going to be seeing vinyl release.
The answer? A quick and to the point, “ASAP”.
Ocean also opened up about the release of Blonde, in particular the way it affected his then-relationship with Def Jam Records. For context, Ocean released Endless one day prior to dropping Blonde, just to meet the contract he’d signed with the iconic hip-hop label.
“It’s funny talking about it these days because I couldn’t really tell anybody anything for a couple of years.” he responded to JPEGMAFIA. “Couldn’t tell anyone at the label, obviously. But I also couldn’t talk with anyone at Apple because the industry is too small and it would’ve gotten back to the label for sure.”
“I carried my hard drives around with me when I travelled because I used to not store anything online. Those drives became a physical representation of the stakes. If the files had leaked, everything would have worked out very differently for me.”
