Frank Ocean‘s 2012 record Channel ORANGE was nominated for five Grammy Awards including Album Of The Year, but his follow-up record Blonde and visual album Endless won’t be following suit.
The 2016 records were released at the end of August, weeks before the 30th September cut-off date for Grammy submissions, but as Billboard reports, neither of the albums were submitted for consideration.
Blonde debuted at number one in the US, and would’ve surely been a strong contender for Grammys, but it seems somebody has dropped the ball (perhaps intentionally) on this one.
It’s possible that there was some confusion over who was going to submit the album for consideration. Ocean released Blonde independently after fulfilling a deal with Def Jam by releasing Endless. Def Jam reportedly had no idea that he was going to release Blonde.
If that’s the case, it would’ve been up to Ocean’s personal team to submit the album and it seems they haven’t. It’s unknown at this stage whether it was an intentional Grammys snub or whether somebody just forgot.
The full nominations will be released on 8th December, while the winners will be crowned on 12th February 2017.
