Alex Kapranos, frontman of famed indie crew Franz Ferdinand, has led his band onstage at Sziget Festival in Budapest over the weekend just moments after recovering consciousness following an allergic reaction to traces of peanut in his food.
The news broke through The Cribs frontman Ryan Jarman, who informed the crowd during his band’s performance that his pal Kapranos was “on his deathbed backstage following a peanut incident”, asking the crowd to cheer their encouragement.
A festival spokesperson confirmed that, after coming in contact with the allergen – believed to have found its way into a rich dish – Kapranos received 2 injections, one of which knocked him out for at least an hour.
But this obviously wasn’t the right time for the band to take a knee and, come 7:30pm, Kapranos and the band were on stage, instruments in hand like anaphylaxis ain’t no thang, kicking things off with the 2009 hit No You Girls.
Recently, the band dropped the video clip for their latest single Right Action set to be featured on their forthcoming full-length Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action. Due out Friday, 23rd August, the record will drop with time to spare for their Harvest Festival appearances in November.
