Indie-pop trio Friendly Fires have announced their new album Inflorescent will be released August 16 through Polydor. It’s the first record in eight years for the groove group, whose last album was 2011’s Pala.
To coincide with the announcement, the band have released ‘Silhouettes’, a new track taken from the LP. It’s the third Inflorescent single we’ve heard from the band, following previously released tracks ‘Love Like Waves’ and ‘Heaven Let Me In’.
Back in January, frontman Ed Macfarlane explained to DIY Mag that the band made a “conscious decision” to take a long hiatus about the release of Pala. “I think I just got exhausted with the whole live side of things.”
In the same interview, Macfarlane described how he felt there was “still a place for [the] band.”
“I feel like people still want to listen to music that’s upbeat and danceable and positive. And we do really translate live. I’ve felt that in the shows that we’ve been doing. We all want to put this record out because it means we can get on with the next chapter or we can move on as a band. So I think it’s, we’ve been away for so long, it would just be amazing to say to people that we’re officially back.”
Production duties for the new record have been shared between the band along with Mark Ralph, James Ford and Disclosure.
