Gang Of Youths’ Next Album Already Has A Name & A Concept

Gang Of Youths frontman David Le’aupepe has revealed he already has a name and a concept in mind for the band’s highly anticipated follow-up to 2017’s Go Farther In Lightness.

Speaking with Apple Music Beats 1 host Zane Lowe this week, Le’aupepe was asked if he’s got new music brewing, and his answer was very, very interesting.

“I feel like I haven’t had a chance to let [the excitement] build, but there’s just a lot of stuff, obviously because my life has been pretty hectic,” he said.

“There’s going to be something, you know? I think I’ve got everything conceptually with the album, including a name, but just not necessarily songs. I always come up with the name first.

“I don’t want to stagnate though… I kind of want to at least get this third album done by next year, that’s really important.”

While Le’aupepe wouldn’t share the name or concept he’s working on, he did say he would also “like to” start producing music for other bands at some point.

Le’aupepe also spoke candidly about the death of his father, who passed away three months ago after living with cancer.

“For me, there’s never going to be any shortage of things that people I feel like might need to hear. I think these universal kind of bonding experiences and things that feel real and these universally intrepid adventures that all of us can relate to — be it tragic or elated — there’s never going to be any shortage of that,” he said.

“And I think all of what I want from my life is to try and interpret those things in really beautiful ways. Whether it’s in a band, or eventually, behind the scenes in some way, that’s kind of what I want to do. I don’t think I’ll ever lose it. ”

Gang Of Youths were nominated for Best Australian Live Act and Best Video at this year’s ARIA Awards, but lost out last night to 5 Seconds Of Summer and Dean Lewis respectively.

The band’s huge ‘Say Yes To Life Tour’ continues in Sydney tonight, with three shows remaining at the Enmore Theatre.
