Gang Of Youths’ new album, angel in realtime., has entered the ARIA Top 50 Albums chart at number one. Angel in realtime. debuted at number ten in the UK’s Official Album Chart – the band’s first appearance in the UK top 100.
It marks the third consecutive week that an Australian artist has debuted at number one in the ARIA Top 50. Last week it was Midnight Oil’s Resist; Huskii’s Antihero stood on the podium the week prior. However, last week, Midnight Oil expressed bafflement at being one of only five Australian artists with top 40 albums. Given one of the other acts was INXS, the Oils were inclined to ask, “What year is this?”
Resist has now slipped to #8 and The Kid LAROI’s F*ck Love (Over You) has moved from #13 to #19. Casey Barnes’ new record, Light It Up, debuted at #17, making it four Australian artists in the top 20. But there are no other Australian albums in the top 50.
Things aren’t much better on the singles chart. ‘Heat Waves’, by UK indie crew, Glass Animals, is back at number one, 21 months after its release. The Kid LAROI’s ‘Stay’ is in the number two spot, 34 weeks after its arrival on the chart.
EDM producer Luude is at #12 with his reimagining of Men At Work’s ‘Down Under’. ‘Say Nothing’ by Flume feat. MAY-A is at #27 and Vance Joy’s ‘Missing Piece’ is holding fast at #30 after 40 weeks. Havana Brown and Rüfüs Du Sol both scraped into the top 50, at #45 and #46 respectively.
