Gang of Youths’ third album, Angel In Realtime, is coming out on Friday, 25th February. The album is about “the life and legacy” of frontperson Dave Le’aupepe’s late father. In a statement, the band said the album reflects on “Indigenous identity, death, grief and God. And also the Angel, Islington.”
The London-based, Sydney band has already shared three singles from the album. The first, ‘the angel of 8th ave.’ came out in June 2021 and appeared on the three-track EP, total serene. The next teaser, ‘the man himself’, came out in October 2021. The band then released ‘tend the garden’ in coordination with the album announcement in November.
The next single, ‘in the wake of your leave’, is due out this Friday, 7th January. It’s the second song on the track listing and according to a social media post, “it came easy compared to much of the record.” Le’aupepe came up with the chorus for ‘in the wake of your leave’ while “walking around Copenhagen one night.”
The band have shared a video teaser for ‘in the wake of your leave’, which shows the song being recorded in a London studio with a little help from F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo.
