Gang Of Youths & Paul Kelly Have Dominated The 2017 ARIA Awards

Gang Of Youths and Paul Kelly have just dominated the 31st annual ARIA Awards in Sydney, taking out a cumulative eight awards between them.

Gang Of Youths took the most awards on the night, nabbing Best Group, Best Rock Album and Apple Music Album Of The Year for Go Farther In Lightness. The band, along with producer Adrian Breakspear, also won the Best Producer award prior to this evening’s ceremony.

Paul Kelly, meanwhile, added Best Adult Contemporary Album and Best Male Artist to the ARIAs he had already been awarded for Best Engineer and Best Cover art on his record Life Is Fine.

Amy Shark was another to win multiple awards, taking home her first two ARIAs ever, winning Breakthrough Artists and Best Pop Release.

Not to be outdone, A.B. Original‘s Briggs and Trials nabbed the gongs for Best Urban Album, Best Independent Release.

Elsewhere, Peking Duk won Apple Music Song Of The Year for ‘Stranger’ featuring Elliphant, odds-on favourite Harry Styles took out Best International Artist and Bliss N Eso grabbed their first ARIA since 2008 with Best Music Video for ‘Moments’

Jimmy Barnes also won his first gong since 1992 when he took out Best Children’s Album, while Sia won Best Female Artist.

The evening also saw Daryl ‘The Horses’ Braithwaite inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame, which will no doubt please his new millennial fanbase.
