Genesis Owusu Wins The $30k Australian Music Prize

The Australian Music Prize has crowned its winner for the most impactful release of 2021: Genesis Owusu’s Smiling With No Teeth.

The debut album for the talented artist has had a dream run since its release, putting Genesis Owusu on the national (and international) map, and reaping acclaim from industry and fans alike.

At the ceremony today in Melbourne (Thursday 3 March), Genesis appeared via Zoom call from Sydney, where he is prepared to perform a sold out show at the Enmore Theatre. Acknowledging that the prize money would be invaluable particularly as he is set to embark on his first ever international tour this year, Genesis Owusu commented:

“This means a lot. This is an award with a lot of esteem, not to mention putting real money back into music at a time like this is so crucial. I’m super grateful, and I’m keen to use this prize to help spread my art across the world, shouting out Australian talent on the way.”
