The great George Clinton has been admitted to hospital with staph infection in his leg. The 69-year-old space-funk pioneer was kept in after a routine health check up, according to TMZ.
Doctors are reportedly monitoring the infection to ensure it does not lead to any nasty complications and ensuring that Clinton can receive the necessary treatment.
One of Clinton’s representatives said the infection is not life-threatening and that fans should not worry, saying, “He will be just fine.Thank you for all your prayers and concern.”
Clinton was in Australia as recently as April when he played Byron Bay’s Bluesfest as well as shows in Sydney and Melbourne. He has of course also been in the news recently what with filing a copyright suit to none other than the Black Eyed Peas, who he claims forged his signature on a contract clearing the rights for the Peas to use Clinton’s (Not Just) Knee Deep for their awful 2003 single Shut Up.
In more benevolent mood, Clinton also donated a bunch of memorabilia to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture, including some major artifacts from Parliament/Funkadelic days, such as the Mothership itself, the notoriously huge stage prop used at countless shows in the seventies.
