My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way has shared a playlist he curated of music he enjoyed this year, featuring both old favourites and newer hits.
There’s a fairly diverse mix of artists picked by the singer, from doom metal legends Sleep and High on Fire, dark electronic outfits like Youth Code and Drab Majesty, and psychedelic pop band The Lemon Twigs.
In addition to all that, there’s also a nod to Melbourne singer-songwriter and all-around legend Alex Lahey. Way included two songs from Lahey’s 2017 debut I Love You Like a Brother, listing both ‘Every Day’s the Weekend’ along with the title track.
As you may recall, it’s the second time Way has sung Lahey’s praises this year.
Back in September, after Lahey delivered an absolutely stunning rendition of My Chem classic ‘Welcome to the Black Parade’, Way took to Instagram to share the clip and commend the cover, saying it gave him “chills”.
“My friend told me to check out her album, I Love You Like A Brother and I thought it was great, you should check it out too,” added Way at the time. Looks like he’s been jamming it pretty consistently.
You can listen to Way’s playlist through Spotify below. The recently-reunited My Chemical Romance will play their first show in seven years in Los Angeles this Friday, 20th December.
They’re headed to Australia next year as part of Download Festival 2020 – suss dates and details here.
