Wu-Tang Clan will be recording a new album, clan member Ghostface Killah has revealed.
There had been fears that the hip-hop supergroup. which features Ghostface Killah, RZA, Raekwon, Master Killa and GZA – would struggle to continue to create music after their 2014 LP A Better Tomorrow which was produced by RZA, received mixed reviews.
But the group, who while in Australia earlier this year spent 10 hours in a recording studio and spoke out against the Sydney lockout laws – will continue to record music, according to an interview that Ghostface Killah gave with HipHopDX.
Killah revealed that RZA had officially handed the leadership of the group over to him recently. When asked whether another album was a possibility, he responded “RZA put the ball in my hand. He said ‘Yo, I want you to do it,’ and I been wanting to do it, and that’s a big test for me right there.”
He also revealed that any new music that he would helm would be a conscious return to their older style. “I mean, you got to always go back to the foundation,” he said. “It’s not what you do it’s how you do it. But it has to be done right. If it don’t fit then we can’t do it. It’ll just have to be done nice. That’s it.”
When asked whether there was any possibility of bringing in additional artists to help record the next Wu-Tang project, Killah said it was unlikely, but wouldn’t rule anything out completely.
“I mean when we do this, we don’t got to bring nobody in,” he said. “Unless there’s somebody that’s already out with a strong name or a good voice that would be good. I learned to not be selfish. People know us. We got 10 people in the goddamn group. But you could still use different guys as different instruments — I look at people’s voices as instruments that complement the track and make it sound good.”
