Glass Animals Say They’ll Get Australia Tattooed On Their Bums If They Win The Hottest 100

If you’re the sort who keeps up to date with Hottest 100 predictions, you’ll know that UK psych-pop quartet Glass Animals are in with a very real chance to take out the top spot this year courtesy of their Dreamland hit ‘Heat Waves’. Reddit sleuths have placed it at number one in their guesses, as have 100 Warm Tunas.

Well, now the band have raised the stakes a little. Taking to the band’s official Facebook page yesterday, frontman Dave Bayley explained that in the “miraculous event” that ‘Heat Waves’ comes out on top, he’ll get a tattoo in the shape of Australia on the “top right of [his] bum… where you might print the italicised initials of a lover”.

So…apparently the betting shops have Heat Waves tipped to do well in the triple j hottest 100. I’m not sure they’re…

Bayley went on to say that drummer Joe Seaward and guitarist Drew MacFarlane are on board too, but that bassist Ed Irwin-Singer reckons they’re all idiots and refuses to join.

“Our love for Australia runs deep. It is where we had our first sold-out shows. it is where triple j gave us some of our first airplay in the world. it is where we had to play gooey in the ding dong lounge for 20 minutes straight because we didn’t have enough songs for a full set on our first tour,” Bayley reflected.

“Australia has been incredibly generous to us…and now, if we come #1, we will proudly display our gratitude and celebrate by cementing our affection for your country deep into the skin of our butt cheeks.”

This year’s Hottest 100 is set to take place later this month on Saturday, 23rd January.
