As Glastonbury adds the final acts to its 2016 lineup, co-organiser Emily Eavis has revealed the team behind the English festival is planning to launch a new event in a new and undisclosed location.
As The Guardian reports, Eavis denies suggestions that Glastonbury might move from its current site at Somerset’s Worthy Farm to a new location, but says the festival’s organisers are working on a new event for “2019 or 2018, but probably 2019” in a brand new location.
“We are going to do a show somewhere else with the same team behind Glastonbury but it hasn’t got a name yet and we’re still not entirely sure what shape it’s going to take,” Eavis says.
“For now we’re all [focused] on Worthy Farm. We’re not thinking too far down that road because we’re quite busy with this one at the moment!”
Glastonbury organisers are yet to confirm if their new venture will take place somewhere in the United Kingdom or somewhere overseas, leaving Aussie festival-goers all like…
Eavis also says that aside from its previously announced tributes to late musicians David Bowie and Prince, Glastonbury 2016 is also planning on hosting a “really good” tribute to late Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister. It needs to remain a surprise though, apparently.
“If I try to explain what we’re trying to make it look like it wouldn’t sound half as good as it’s going to be,” Eavis says.
As for those rumours that Radiohead might take Glasto’s “secret performer” slot for 2016, Eavis says nothing is locked in.
“There’s no planned Radiohead gig at the moment. But obviously we would love to have Radiohead back,” she says. “Personally I’d love to have them play next year but at the moment there’s no confirmation, so we’ll have to see.”
The final list of acts added to the 2016 Glastonbury lineup include the likes of Tame Impala, Damon Albarn, Christine And The Queens, Mystery Jets, Alessia Cara and Rat Boy. Catch the full lineup below and the festival schedule over at the Glastonbury website.
