A fundraising campaign has been launched by What So Not to help Jagwar Ma‘s Jono Ma rebuild after losing his home and studio in the recent east coast floods.
The talented producer and musician, who is known for his work in Australia and internationally with the likes of Flight Facilities, Foals, Genesis Owusu and Jonti, had been London-based until COVID-19 hit. As the pandemic settled in, Jono relocated back to Australia with his partner and two children, setting up a new home base and studio in Byron Bay.
And now, with QLD and NSW being battered by devastating floods and rainfall, Jono is one of many who have fallen victim to the effects of it all. Says What So Not (Christopher Emerson), Jono and his family have lost everything, no longer having a place to live or work.
“Despite what some may think, success does not always bring fortune.” he has written on the GoFundMe page, launched this week.
“Jono is a man of the people; he’s about the grit, he’ll choose art over dollars every day of the week & I know he’s put almost everything he had into vintage gear, record collections, equipment and events.”
“That’s why it brought me such sadness today, to hear he’s lost so much of his life to these floods… There are countless items that cannot be replaced & not covered by insurance…”
With a $50,000 goal in place, the fundraising effort has already reached $11,400 at the time of writing.
The description of the campaign states that proceeds from the GoFundMe will go directly towards the rebuilding of Jono’s home and studio. Organisers have also put the call out for any tradies or anyone else who can help with their efforts.
