Gotye To Have Highest Selling Single In The UK For 2012… Unless A Miracle Happens

Australians all let us rejoice… Gotye is almost certain to have the highest-selling single in the UK this year for his worldwide hit Somebody That I Used to Know.

NME reports that the song – which has sold 1.28 million copies in the UK since its release in February – will hold onto top spot unless there are record-breaking sales for the debut single from this year’s UK X-Factor winner and/or the Hillsborough Charity single, which features Paul McCartney.

UK’s The Official Charts Company lists Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe as the second biggest-selling single of 2012, with FUN’s We Are Young, David Guetta’s Titanium, and Nicki Minaj’s Starships rounding out the top five.

Somebody That I Used to Know is one of just 123 songs to have scored over a million sales in the UK Charts’ 60-year history.
