Grace Cummings Shares Title Track To New Album ‘Ramona’

Grace Cummings has released ‘Ramona’, the title track to her third studio album Ramona which is set for release next month on Friday April 5. It is the third song to be lifted from the album, following the release of ‘On and On’ in January and ‘Common Man’ last month.

In a press statement, Cummings pointed to two key inspirations behind the song: Bob Dylan (specifically his song ‘To Ramona’) and The Wizard of Oz (specifically the number ‘If I Were King of the Forest’).

“It’s [a song] about putting on a mask to become brave and true,” she said. “I have spent a lot of time living in my own little world, because I have been quite scared of the real one. I have spent much of my life believing that I deserved to be unhappy.

“I became a weak little bird who didn’t know who she was, and at times I was so unwell that I didn’t even think I wanted to be in the world anymore. I hated what I saw in the mirror and I wanted to be somebody else. That’s what ‘Ramona’ is about.”

To coincide with the single’s release, an accompanying music video has been shared. The black-and-white clip was directed by Yianni Rowlands, with animations by Berlin-based Australian designer Dougal Morrison.
