Graham Norton Reckons Australia Being In Eurovision Is “Stupid”

The hype around Eurovision 2016 is seriously amping up. In what will be Australia’s second year in the song contest; Justin Timberlake has just announced that he’ll be performing – while in recent weeks it has been revealed that Shannon Noll will join the judging panel, and the Belarusian contestant will perform nude with live wolves.

Although feedback on Australia’s entry into the contest has largely been positive up to this point, British talkshow host Graham Norton has come out in strong opposition to Australia being included for a second year.

Norton has called for Australia to be banned from Eurovision entirely, “I just do not understand why they are in the Eurovision Song Contest. Get rid of Australia,” he said in The Sun. “I know some countries aren’t technically in Europe but, come on — Australia is on the other side of world.”

Apparently Norton was okay with Australia being included last year due to it being a special anniversary year. “Last year they said it was a one-off as it was a celebratory anniversary and you think, ‘OK’, but they are back again.” he said. “What’s that about? People go, ‘Oh you are so anti-Australia’. I’ve got nothing against Australia. I just think it is kind of stupid.”

Eurovision will take place on the 10th, 12th and 14th of May, with Dami Im set to represent Australia – performing her song Sound Of Silence.
