Great Gable have shared details of their forthcoming third studio album, entitled Small Fry. The album follows on from both their 2022 album On The Wall In The Morning Light and last year’s six-track EP Read The Room. To coincide with the album’s announcement, the band have lifted a third single from it and also shared national Australian tour dates for March 2025 – all of which can be found below.
‘Fine Wine’, released today (July 25th), follows the release of album opener ‘Best Friend’ in February and ‘Think Again, Motherfucker’ in May. In a press statement, lead guitarist Matt Preen noted that the new single was “about perspective and optimism, and reflecting on different points in your life”.
“It’s about taking a step back and appreciating change – of the people that are there, or aren’t anymore, and the effect that has on you,” he said. “It’s meant to feel exciting and loose, like it could take off at any point, but still have some sort of storytelling style about it.”
Great Gable – ‘Fine Wine’
Great Gable recorded Small Fry with veteran producer Dave Parkin at his Blackbird Studios in Perth. Lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Alex Whiteman has noted in the album’s press materials that a lot of his lyrical focus was on the band’s home state of Western Australia – specifically, growing up in the state’s south. “Those memories play a big part in the music,” he said. “It’s a mix of emotions, a bit of nostalgia and sentimentality. I think that authenticity is what makes the album special for me.”
The band will spend the next three months touring through Europe, including a run of festival dates and a series of shows supporting fellow Australians Lime Cordiale. Small Fry, then, will be released weeks after the conclusion of the tour on Friday October 11th via Warner Music Australia. Due to the band’s international touring commitments, the Small Fry national tour will take place in early 2025. The album can be pre-ordered here, while tour dates and ticketing information can be found below.
