Green Day Lock In First Live Show In Over A Year

For the first time on over a year Green Day have locked in a live show, in preparation for their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame later this month.

The punk trio will play at the House of Blues in Cleveland on April 16th, two days before they are inducted into the Rock Hall. The show will be their fist since they made an appearance at South By Southwest in 2014 under the moniker Foxboro Hot Tubs.

Some have speculated that Green Day will use the show to preview new material, given that last year frontman Billie Joe Armstrong shared a photo on Instagram showing a collection of stickers and brass numbers being used to spell out “GREEN DAY 15″.

“I’m in a hardware store in Queens, and this is on my mind,” he wrote in the caption, concluding with, “#greenday15 #thefutureisnow #greendayforever.”

That was followed by a photo posted earlier this year of the band in the studio with the caption, “1st jam in a year!”

Green Day had previously announced they would take a break from touring after playing Soundwave and two US shows in early 2014. They last released new material in 2012, in the form of three studio albums titled ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tré!.

The band have undergone some difficulties in the past year with guitarist Jason White being diagnosed with a type of tonsil cancer. According to a statement from the band the cancer was caught early and is treatable. The announcement came after bassist Mike Dirnt revealed last May that his wife had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

It is not known yet if the band will play any other shows in the lead up to the Rock Hall festivities. It was revealed recently that Fall Out Boy will make the induction speech for Green Day when they are inducted alongside Lou Reed, Joan Jett, Bill Withers, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble and The Paul Butterfield Blues Band.
