Grimes has announced a new venture today and it’s very… Grimes. She’ll be launching her first online art exhibition through the Gallery Platform Los Angeles and Maccarone Los Angeles.
Her exhibition features a bunch of prints and visual works which seem to relate heavily to AI.
On the exhibit, Grimes says, “Well I feel like what’s really interesting right now is that humans are working on building artificial general intelligence, which is fascinating, because if we can actually create a sentient being, I mean, that’s an extremely godly act.
“That is the act of creating life in a way, which would, in theory, make us like gods. But at the same time, the thing we’ve created would be, compared to us, a god in terms of how powerful it is.”
As part of the exhibition though, Grimes will also be auctioning off a piece of… her soul. Yup, the highest bidder will be able to walk away with a piece of the conceptual artist’s soul. The work is titled Selling Out and not so ironically, Grimes originally priced the slice of soul at about $10 million USD. However, it’s now going on a “best offer” basis.

She spoke with Bloomberg about the new visual art venture. She told them that she’s always been a visual artist first and foremost, saying, “I’ve always felt strange that people know me for music.”
Clarifying, she said, the exhibition is “a continuation of, rather than a departure from, [her] music.”
“The deeper we got with it, the more philosophically interesting it became,” she told Bloomberg. “Also, I really wanted to collaborate with my lawyer on art. The idea of fantastical art in the form of legal documents just seems very intriguing to me.”
Grimes recently welcomed a baby with Elon Musk.
