Grizzly Bear’s Ed Droste Allegedly Abused For Criticising Taylor Swift, Deletes Twitter Account

The frontman of US indie rockers Grizzly Bear, Ed Droste, has deleted his Twitter account after allegedly being abused by Taylor Swift fans who hit back at him when he criticised the singer online.

After Swift brought out the likes of St Vincent and Beck at a recent show, Droste took to Twitter to share his reaction. As NME reports, Droste said he had “lost a lot of respect for a shit ton of thirsty celebs this week”.

“Tired of everyone sucking up to the power. Just stop feeding the monster,” he added, and it was at this point that abusive comments from Swift fans allegedly came pouring in.

Droste claimed to have received messages and comments from people calling him “faggot, ugly, dirty Jew and the works”.

“I was treated like shit for no reason on 3 occasions by the monster and thusly I’ve been called every disgusting slur there is,” he said.

Before deleting his Twitter account, Droste posted, “Fame is an illness & I feel stupid for ever participating. You might see me on Twitter come New Years to say hi. Otherwise love the good 1s… Bye.”

Droste has previously called Swift “self serving”, “calculating” and has said that Tay Tay “frightens me genuinely”.

Droste has also said that Swift has “been given a free pass for too long” by the media, has said he has had “first hand experience” of Swift being rude, and has even compared her to the super-mean Mean Girls character Regina George.

Swift’s current tour is being supported by LA pop-rockers HAIM. Since Droste deleted his Twitter account, the band’s Alana Haim, who is a mutual friend of Droste and Swift, appeared to take Swift’s side by tweeting, “Done with friends who aren’t ride or die…Snip, snip, bye, bye!”

She later tweeted about HAIM’s show with Swift, posting, “In other news… TONIGHT WAS SO RAD!”

Swift is renowned for surprising her fans with special guests at her shows. On Wednesday night, 26th August, she even brought out Friends actress Lisa Kudrow for a rendition of Smelly Cat, the song made famous by Kudrow’s Friends character, Phoebe Buffay.

In anticipation of the random special guests Tay Tay may or may not bring out at the forthcoming Australian leg of her 1989 world tour, Music Feeds put together an Aussie version of the viral “PLEASE WELCOME TO THE STAGE…” Taylor Swift parody.

Thankfully, we are yet to receive any hurtful comments from Swift’s fans. Catch the shenanigans in full, below.
