Guns N’ Roses Apologise After Being Booed By Fans In Melbourne

Gun N’ Roses have apologised to Australian fans after they were booed by concert-goers in Melbourne last night, when their announcer mistakenly confused Melbourne with Sydney.

At the beginning of last night’s GNR show at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the band’s longtime techie and announcer McBob opened the show by hyping up fans in “Sydney”, instead of Melbourne. The announcement was followed by boos from the crowd, before the band launched into their first song of the night, ‘It’s So Easy’.

Here’s how it all went down…

…and here’s how it looked in retrospect:

Since the show, Guns N’ Roses have taken to social media to apologise, saying, “‪Melbourne!‬ Accidentally after 30 years McBob made an error, we’re truly sorry. Thank you for coming out tonight!‬”

Frontman Axl Rose has tweeted, “Melbourne! Didn’t notice r intro yday. R sincere apologies!! Really amazing crowd!McBob feels horrible.”

Guitarist Slash has also taken to Twitter to say, “Melbourne, thank you for an awesome fucking evening! Apologies for the Spinal Tap intro! But, we had a great fucking time tonight! Cheers!”

Meanwhile, bassist Duff McKagan has told fans, “Melbourne! WOW!! 70k strong 2nite. Don’t b2 hard on McBob 4saying ‘Sydney’ in the intro…his wife and fam r fom [sic] here. Hell [sic] catch it plenty!”

Following McBob’s mix-up, Sydney Melbourne fans were treated to a 24-song set from GNR, which included an appearance from AC/DC’s Angus Young, who joined the band for ‘Whole Lotta Rose’ and ‘Riff Raff’ after also appearing at GNR’s two recent Sydney shows. Catch a clip of ‘Riff Raff’ in Melbourne, below.

Guns N’ Roses’ ‘Not In The Lifetime Tour’ continues in Adelaide on Saturday, before finishing in Perth next Tuesday, 21st February.
