NT-based music company Skinnyfish Music has been handed a brutal and unnecessary blow this week, with more than $60,000 of equipment and gear stolen from their office. Among the haul was pieces of Gurrumul’s setup, including his favourite guitar, a Martin HD-28.
Skinnyfish office manager Caron Farrell has explained to NT News that upon arriving at the office on Sunday morning, she discovered that as well as Gurrumul’s guitar, the thieves made off with two Royer Ribbon microphones, equipment belonging to Tiwi Island outfit B2M, office computers and other microphones.
“I noticed some DVDs out the front door on Sunday when I came to do a bit of work and when I opened the door I saw all the computers had gone,” Farrell said. “They’d looked in our store room and taken heaps of musical instruments. We’re absolutely devastated — there’s a lot of dedication that’s goes in the work here.”
According to Skinnyfish Music’s Mark Grose, the office computers will most likely be of no use to the criminals, adding, “It’s a pointless disruption form our point of view — why take four old mac computers that are of no value to anyone else but us?”
A similar situation involving rock outfit Dispossessed took place earlier this month, with the band around $5,000 worth of their gear stolen from Sydney’s Factory Theatre. Fortunately in that instance, fans were able to raise enough cash to replace the equipment, and then some.
