It’s not every day you reach a decade in the music industry, so it’s a milestone worth celebrating – and Inertia are doing just that in 2010.
At the turn of the century, Inertia was just the seed of an idea held by Founder and CEO, Ashley Sellers. In 2010, Inertia is at the top of its game: a cutting edge, 100% Australian owned-and-operated, independent music company.
Success in the past decade has come in the form of 11,000 artists and more than 35,000 releases, including Sia’s ‘We Are Born’, Radiohead’s ‘In Rainbows’, Ben Lees’ ‘Awake is the New Sleep’, Grizzly Bear’s ‘Veckatimest’, Sigur Ros’ ‘Agaetis Byrjun’, Bon Iver’s ‘For Emma, Forever Ago’ and Interpol’s ‘Turn On the Bright Lights’ to name but a few.
In addition, Inertia have partnered with many labels during their 10 years including Beggars / Remote Control, Invada, Warp, Ninja Tune, Soul Jazz, Elefant Traks, Fat Cat and Secretly Canadian, to sell more than 5 million units.
The most recent independent label to partner with Inertia is iconic Seattle based imprint, Sub Pop – home to artists such as Fleet Foxes, Flight Of The Conchords, The Postal Service, Wolf Parade, Tiny Vipers, Blitzen Trapper, Iron & Wine, Male Bonding, Happy Birthday, Dum Dum Girls, The Ruby Suns, The Album Leaf, Avi Buffalo, Jaill and CocoRosie. Sub Pop is widely credited with changing the face of rock music in the 1980s and 1990s with artists such as Nirvana, Soundgarden and Mudhoney.
With a culture where the music services they provide continue to grow alongside the music they passionately support, Inertia represent and empower independent artists and help them release their music the way they want to.
“I wish an Inertia was born every day and not just once because the world needs more Inertias.
I love you guys. Happy birthday.” Sia
