Hatchie Signs US Record Deal, Releases New Single ‘This Enchanted’

Brisbane shoegaze artist Hatchie has released the new single, ‘This Enchanted’. It’s Hatchie’s first new music since her debut album, Keepsake, from 2019.

Hatchie described ‘This Enchanted’ as an encapsulation of everything she wanted to do moving beyond her first album. The track was written with producer Jorge Elbrecht and guitarist Joe Agius.

“We had been talking about making something dancey but shoegaze,” said Hatchie. “It’s one of the most fun songs I’ve written, so it was a no-brainer to pick it as my first solo release in almost two years.”

‘This Enchanted’ is Hatchie’s first release via prominent American indie label, Secretly Canadian, home to artists such as Faye Webster, Alex Cameron and Whitney.

“It feels so right to be working with a label as exciting as Secretly as I step into new territory with Hatchie. I’ve been counting down the days until its release for a long time,” she said.

Hatchie is the project of Harriette Pilbeam, who is also a member of Brisbane indie-pop band Babaganouj. Pilbeam released her debut solo EP, Sugar & Spice, in 2018.

The record was rated by 7.5/10 by influential music publication Pitchfork, who also published a feature article on Hatchie titled, “Introducing Hatchie, the Dream-Pop Idol of Tomorrow.”
