Jamie T has unveiled his first new music for the year, a single titled Tinfoil Boy.
Premiering on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show yesterday, this tune is heavy on the distortion, giving it a really new, raw feel for the British singer-songwriter.
Jamie T revealed to Mac that the new track was recorded in Detroit. “It was recorded slightly differently,” he said. “We went to Detroit and did a session out there. That’s where the track came from and it was recorded in a different place under slightly different rules which helped it sound a bit different. Hopefully that comes across. I wanted to put something out that was kind of claustrophobic.”
He went on to say that he’d been inspired by Rage Against The Machine when recording Tinfoil Boy and also revealed that the track features a monologue from actress Florence Bell, something that he’d wanted to use on a song for a while now.
“She’s an old friend of mine from college,” he said. “I had this idea to sample which I did a lot on the last record. It wasn’t such a good idea this time around. So I got some friends, actors and actresses to come in and do some monologues. It was a lot of fun.”
