Kurt Cobain in a still from documentary 'Montage of Heck'

Hear Kurt Cobain’s Raw Early Demo Of Nirvana’s ‘Sappy’ From Upcoming Solo Album

A posthumous Kurt Cobain solo album is set for release this November, and a super-raw demo of Nirvana‘s Sappy featured on the release has now made its way online.

Sappy, which was originally named Sad, dates back to at least 1987. The song’s early demo (below) is one of a bunch of four-track recordings Cobain made in 1988 while living in Olympia, Washington, and sees the muso mapping out the song with just a guitar and some dreary vocals.

The final version of Sappy was recorded in 1993 during Nirvana’s In Utero sessions and was released as a hidden track on the AIDS charity compilation No Alternative. It was for some time known as Verse Chorus Verse.

Sappy (Early Demo) is a taste of Montage Of Heck: The Home Recordings, the companion album for Brett Morgen’s Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck documentary. Set for release on 13th November, the album is promising a pile of unheard Cobain tracks and demos which Morgen collated as he developed the film.

According to Rolling Stone, Montage Of Heck: The Home Recordings will feature 13 tracks from Cobain’s personal collection, while a limited edition version will hold 31 tracks. Hear Sappy (Early Demo) in full, below, alongside a studio version.
