Rihanna AKA the Frank Sinatra of our times has returned with a brand new musical offering.
Hot on the heels of her eighth studio LP Anti – not to mention high-profile collabs with Drake and Calvin Harris – Ri-Ri has leant her pipes to the theme song of the upcoming Star Trek Beyond theme.
It’s called Sledgehammer, but should not be confused with the Peter Gabriel song of the same name.
The soaring ballad was co-written by Aussie pop phenom Sia, something that becomes very obvious once you give it a listen.
The tune is packing a trademark Sia melody, complete with signature quirky word pronunciations and mumbles.
In the context of the trailer for Star Trek Beyond, it sounds epic and dramatic, but on its own is a tad less exciting and doesn’t really measure up to 2012’s Diamonds (Rihanna’s last Sia-written single).
