Hear Two New Foo Fighters Tunes, ‘What Did I Do?/God As My Witness’ & ‘Outside’

We’re four weeks into the rollout of Foo Fighters‘ eighth studio album, Sonic Highways, and to mix things up Dave Grohl and co have debuted not one but two new tracks from the album.

During an in-studio session for BBC Radio 1 today, the Foos played Outside, which brings a touch of Grohl’s beloved Police to the classic Foo Fighters sound. Unofficial sixth member Rami Jaffee adds some swirling keys, and a reverberant Andy Summers-esque lead fills the space in the breakdown, sandwiched between some very Everlong riffs.

The second newbie is the studio version of What Did I Do?/God As My Witness, which starts as a more straightforward radio-friendly rocker with a wall of guitars, slowing things down as we morph into the second half of the track, before we’re back into the power chords, and a suspiciously Beatles-esque riff.

The studio version of Outside was recorded at Rancho De La Luna in Joshua Tree, California with Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh. What Did I Do?/God As My Witness was recorded in Austin with Gary Clark, Jr, both of which will feature in the next episode of the Sonic Highways doco series.

Gary Clark, Jr, was also today announced as part of the Foos’ massive 20th anniversary celebration concert, to be held in Washington D.C. next year.

Foo Fighters are, of course, touring Australia and New Zealand next year on their Sonic Highways world tour, taking in eight venues in total. Sonic Highways the album is released 10th November. Tour details, and the brand-new Foos tracks, are below.
