Faith No More have released their first song in almost 20 years. But you wouldn’t know it’s been so long — on first listen new track Motherfucker shows zero signs of rust. Motherfucker is as instantly compelling as some of FNM’s ’90s classics.
The song is tightly wound, coiled around starched guitar strings and clockwork drum rolls. Motherfucker builds on the “greatest” voice in music, frontman Mike Patton, but refrains from breaking out until its huge outro. Patton shouts “Get the motherfucker on the phone” over a quality guitar solo.
Motherfucker is the first single from FNM’s upcoming seventh studio album, which the Californian outfit recently revealed they had been working on in secret for about a year and a half. FNM first debuted Motherfucker in July in London’s Hyde Park, along with another new track thought to be titled Leader Of Men.
Faith No More will release Motherfucker as a seven inch for Record Store Day‘s Black Friday on 28th November. The seven inch will be limited to 5,000 copies and feature a B-side remix by J.G. Thirlwell.
Of the new material FNM bassist Billy Gould said their next LP, due out April 2015, will sonically be about “space and scope”. “Everything we do, with our chemistry, the way we play; it’s always going to sound like us. It’s just what we do, that makes us feel good,” Gould told Rolling Stone. “[It’s] big, big sound-stage space.”
Fans heading along to Soundwave 2015 should by psyched to hear new material from Faith No More, along with past hits like Epic, Midlife Crisis, and Falling to Pieces. Now sit back, relax, and blast FNM’s brand spanker Motherfucker below.
