While most of us have recovered from the trauma that is Splendour in the Grass being cancelled (along with every other festival we love), the forthcoming weekend does freshen up those wounds. This weekend was slated as a time where we should’ve been shimmery, a lil’ drunk, and dancing to the likes of Flume, The Strokes, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
The good news is, Splendour has thrown us a consolation prize. Three actually. First up, triple j is giving us Splendour in the Past. They’ll be broadcasting all the best and iconic Splendour sets on your airwaves.
Secondly, DMA’s are performing in the North Byron Parklands today. They’ll be streaming an acoustic set from the Amphitheatre, a stage they’ve played twice before. It’ll go down at 4:30pm and you can watch it on Splendour in the Grass’ and DMA’s Facebook pages, or on the DMA’s Youtube page.
And the third consolation prize is the prospect of nabbing a 2021 backstage pass. The festival is slinging ‘Rather Be At Splendour’ T-shirts. 100 per cent of the profits from the shirts goes to their crew, who would obviously be doing it tough through COVID-19. They’re $40 and it’s the music industry equivalent of #SupportSmallBusiness.
If the good feels aren’t enough though, the T-shirt is also your entry to a competition for backstage passes to next year’s festo.
Basically, buy the shirt, wear the shirt, take a selfie in the shirt, and post it to Instagram. Your profile will need to be on public and you’ll need to say why you’d rather be at Splendour in 25 words or less.
The best answer takes all (a backstage pass for you and a mate).
Entries close 5 pm Friday, 28th August.
