Here’s That Song By James Franco’s Band, Daddy, You So Desperately Wanted

Last month it was reported that James Franco had signed a record deal with his band Daddy and now, brace yourselves, we have the debut single from the band.

Alongside school friend Tim O’Keefe, Franco is putting out an album titled Let Me Get What I Want and a full-length film, inspired by The Smiths-influenced poems that Franco penned in his book Directing Herbert White: Poems.

Surprisingly, the first song to come from the project You Are Mine doesn’t sound that much like The Smiths. It has a new age feel with reverb-soaked vocals and washed-out guitars. According to Franco the song is about teenage lust, basically.

“High school is a time of longing for the unattainable,” Franco told Rolling Stone.

“We dream big, but we’re still too young to make anything significant happen. At least I was too immature and sensitive to be the person I wanted to be. You Are Mine is about one teenager dreaming about another, even though they’ll never be together.”

The full project is due out early next year.
