Sydney pop-punksters Heroes For Hire have seemingly dumped their lead singer Brad Smith, revealing the news by posting a picture on their Facebook page.
In a short statement, the band haven’t given an exact reason for their decision to “part ways” with Brad, just mentioning that guitarist and backing vocalist Duane Hazell has now stepped up to be their full-time frontman.
The band wrote:
Hey guys, we’ve decided to part ways with Brad and have Duane step up to the mic as our singer. Anyone who has caught us before knows that Duane has got a sick voice and we can’t wait to show you the new stuff that we’ve been working on. We’re playing a few shows in the coming weeks so come down and say hi. In addition, we will be announcing UK and Asian dates really soon!
Reaction to Smith’s sudden departure has naturally generated a lot of interesting comments from fans on the Facebook post, most of whom were shocked at the news and hit out at the band for their decision.
Bronte Rae Lawson declared, “Heroes for hire are officially dead”, while Rhys Ruthless told the guys to “Have fun playing an empty band room Thursday”.
Terry Wrist wasn’t too fussed, writing, “Good riddance to that fuck head Tom DeLonge wannabe”, and Sarah Trewin believed Brad “did fuck all anyway”.
But Kirra Lancaster was clearly devastated, taking a huge swipe at the band with her comment: “Brad made the fucking band! So your just going to use what he contributed to the band and name it your own? No! Fuck off you gutless jerks. This was a very stupid decision and you have made a fool of yourselves. This is not how you should have done this!”
Heroes For Hire have four dates listed in Sydney, Brisbane, Dandenong and Melbourne later this month – it will be interesting to see how their new line-up is embraced.
