Melbourne future soul ensemble Hiatus Kaiyote are hitting the road this August, behind the release of their second album, Choose Your Weapon. The quartet are set to embark on a five-date tour with stops in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth.
In a live setting, Hiatus Kaiyote’s improvisational abilities are put on full display. The group are renowned for their technical skill and hypnotic rhythms, and if their recent Gorillaz cover on Like A Version is anything to go by, their upcoming tour might see a few sweet musical surprises.
Hiatus Kaiyote self-produced each of the 18 tracks on Choose Your Weapon, which has finally been released into the wild today. The band say the album has a certain cinematic feel: “We definitely see the music as habitats – and each song is its own. It’s very visual.” Listen to album cut, Shaolin Monk Motherfunk, below.
Having dabbled in jazz, psychedelia, soul, R&B, funk, hip-hop and electronica, Hiatus Kaiyote rightfully describe their hybrid as “multi-dimensional, polyrhythmic gangster shit”. The band’s Choose Your Weapon tour begins in Melbourne on Friday, 14th August. Full tour and ticket details are available below.
